These Planning and Conversation Guides are designed to support employees who are planning to take time out for the arrival of a new baby, or for those taking leave to care for young children, an elderly parent, or a family member with a disability, an illness or chronic medical condition.

The Employee Guide (PDF, 423kb) is a practical resource to help employees prepare for taking leave as a carer, by giving guidelines, tips and checklists to navigate through the various decisions and actions they’ll be taking.

The Manager Guide (PDF, 383kb) is designed to help supervisors have empathetic, supportive and positive conversations with their employees so that together they can work on the best way to plan for the leave they’ll be taking, either as a parent or carer.
