Workshops and training

Respect. Now. Always: Responding to disclosures of sexual assault and sexual harassment

The Respect. Now. Always. (RNA) project at Macquarie aims to change our community culture, to prevent sexual assault and sexual harassment, and to improve how we respond to sexual harassment and sexual assault. This training aims to help staff develop skills for responding to sexual harassment or sexual assault affecting students. The skills taught can also be used when responding to student distress more generally.

In this workshop, you'll learn why LGBTIQ inclusion is important to the Macquarie University community and explore the impact of heteronormativity, homophobia, transphobia & prejudice. This training is open to all students, academic and professional staff at Macquarie University.

Disability confidence workshops for staff and managers

Building capacity to support and promote the inclusion of people with disability within your workforce will ensure that you can attract and retain from the entire talent pool and build a workforce that is representative of the broader community. Disability confidence training for work forces assists staff to identify ways to develop an inclusive and accessible environment for employees, customers and stakeholders. The training will be done through discussion, group activities, scenarios and video.

Life drawing classes

Macquarie University Art Gallery will be hosting free life drawing classes with artist Teong Tan on Wednesday 27 November, Wednesday 4 December and Wednesday 11 December from 5-7pm. No bookings are required - just show up at the Art Gallery at 5pm.

Free yoga classes

Enjoy yoga or want to try it out in your lunch break? The Sport & Aquatic Centre are offering a series of free yoga classes led by experienced instructors. Classes will be held at 12pm every Monday in the Creative Room Space on Level 4 of MUSE (18 Wally's Walk). Come dressed and ready to go, or stop at level three to use the bathrooms to change.

Mindfulness meditation sessions

Mindfulness meditation is a practice of focusing the mind on the present moment, helping to cultivate awareness, concentration and gentle self-discipline, while also improving emotional regulation.

Dr Michelle Jamieson (HDR Learning Advisor, Faculty of Arts) is running free sessions for staff interested in learning to meditate or practicing regularly with a group. She will explore a number of practices including sitting meditation, moving meditation and body scanning. Registrations for these sessions are managed through the Researcher Development Calendar.

Free massages for staff

Throughout 2019, the Chiropractic Clinic and their final year students will be offering free 15-minute soft tissue massages to staff. These sessions will run once a month throughout the year. To reserve your booking, click here. To add your name to the waiting list, email abetteryouatmq@mq.edu.au.
