Concerning and threatening behaviour

Concerning and threatening behaviour

Macquarie takes the wellbeing of its people seriously and is proud of its collaborative and supportive culture.

Our Code of Conduct communicates our values and the way we expect our people to behave and interact with each other. Should you feel concerned or threatened at any time there are a number of ways you can raise your concerns.

Concerning behaviour

Concerning behaviour is where you are worried or concerned about a person’s actions or choices.

It could be something obvious like:

  • intentional theft
  • pornography use that contravenes Macquarie University IT usage policy and/or affects others
  • sexual harassment (unwelcome sexual conduct of any kind).

Or something not so obvious like:

  • unusually persistent complaining
  • unwanted attention
  • any other behaviour not mentioned that is worrying and inappropriate eg revealing inappropriate knowledge of personal information, or demanding unwarranted special consideration.

You can report concerning or threatening behaviours online if you don’t require immediate support.

Resolving the situation

Once reported, your health and safety advisor and other key resources will be drawn upon to address the matter.

Threatening behaviour

This is when you are fearful or feel that imminent physical danger to yourself or others is likely.

Obvious threats could be:

  • an uttered threat to kill, harm another or damage property
  • an uttered threat to self-harm or suicide
  • any act of physical violence, property damage, or production of a weapon.

Not so obvious threats could be:

  • stalking (repeated attempts to impose unwanted communication or contact which elicit concern)
  • bullying (repeated, unreasonable conduct in the workplace)
  • angry, aggressive communications.

For URGENT support call Security on ext 9999 or (02) 9850 9999.

If the situation doesn’t require immediate action, report it via Concerning or Threatening Behaviours or ROAR.

Resolving the situation

Once reported, your health and safety advisor and other key resources will be drawn upon to address the matter.

Need support or help?

You can report Risk and Hazards using  ROAR

ROAR allows you to contact the Risk and Assurance team. You can use ROAR to lodge an online query or report about anything that concerns you if you think it's risky, hazardous or threatening.

Once we receive your ROAR we'll get back in touch with some questions to clarify the situation and confirm the next steps.
