Professional staff

Salary rates for full-time Professional staff employed on a continuing or fixed-term basis are set for each level and step in Schedule 1. Full-time Academic Salaries of the Professional Staff Enterprise Agreement. Part-time staff are paid pro-rata based on the appropriate full-time salary.

Generally, after each year of continuous service staff will progress to the next step within the same level. This will continue each year until the top step is reached. This is referred to as incremental progression.

Additional hours and overtime

Part-time staff who are required by the University to work additional hours can claim payment for these additional hours up to 70 hours in a fortnight, at the rate of time and a fifth (1.2).

Staff employed on HEW levels 1-8 who are required by the University to work more than their ordinary hours on any day, or more than 70 hours over the fortnight, can claim overtime payment. Staff may also be able to claim overtime meal allowances where set out below.

To claim payment for additional and overtime hours complete the Additional hours and Overtime claim form for full-time and part-time Professional staff. Staff may also request to take time off in lieu instead of overtime payment.

Overtime hours meal allowance

Claimable when working two or more hours overtime after normal finishing time (dinner allowance).

Claimable when working two or more hours before normal commencing time (breakfast allowance).

Claimable when working four or more hours overtime on Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays (lunch allowance).

Claimable when working more than four hours after previous meal break.

Shift and on call allowances

Where a staff member’s rostered hours correspond with the periods set out below, they are entitled to a shift allowance. Staff who are required to be on call (ie required to be contactable and available to perform duties) are entitled to an on call allowance.

To claim payment for shift and on call allowances, complete the Additional hours and Overtime claim form for full-time and part-time Professional Staff.

Annual leave loading

In the first pay of December each year, staff will receive an additional amount called annual leave loading. Annual leave loading is an additional payment of 17.5% of four weeks of base salary, or a payment equal to the Australian Bureau of Statistics average weekly total earnings for all males (Australian) for the Bureau’s reporting period preceding the date of accrual, whichever the lesser. For part-time staff and staff who have been employed for less than one year, annual leave loading will be paid pro-rata.
