Cultural diversity

Macquarie University is proud of its culturally diverse community, with more than 150 cultural and ethnic backgrounds represented in our student community and 30 per cent of our staff coming from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

We are committed to ensuring that people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds have equal opportunity to participate fully in the University community.

The University is guided by the NSW State Government Multicultural Policies and Services Program. Progress reports on the implementation of our multicultural services and strategies are included in the University's Annual Reports.

The University supports the Racism. It Stops with me campaign. This campaign, led by the Australian Human Rights Commission, aims to:

  • ensure more Australians recognise that racism is unacceptable in our community
  • give more Australians the tools and resources to take practical action against racism
  • empower individuals and organisations to prevent and respond effectively to racism.
