Staff Mobility Initiative

Staff Mobility Initiative

Broaden your career with the Macquarie Staff Mobility register.

The Staff Mobility Initiative has been designed to enable staff to pro-actively register their interest for internal secondment opportunities within Macquarie University. It provides an opportunity for professional staff to develop their careers while sharing their knowledge, skills and experience across the University.

Am I eligible?

Continuing and fixed term professional staff members are eligible to register for the Staff Mobility Initiative.

How does it work?

Eligible staff can register their interest in a secondment opportunity and indicate what areas of work they are interested in and what skills and experience they would like to develop. Secondments are for 12 months or less, and can be in any faculty, office or department where a suitable vacancy becomes available. When an opportunity becomes available, HR will work with hiring managers, interested staff and their home manager to find a suitable match and organise a secondment.

Why participate?

The Staff Mobility Initiative will allow you to seek opportunities for development across the University to:

  • share knowledge, skills and expertise across departments and offices,
  • grow your existing skills and experience,
  • gain a greater understanding of the University, and
  • bring back new perspectives to your substantive position.

How do I register?

Eligible staff are encouraged to register through the Job Opportunities page. As part of the process, you will need to:

  • provide a resume,
  • identify what types of roles you are interested in, and
  • indicate what skills and experience you want to develop.

Please note, that while we take every effort to find a suitable opportunity for interested staff, registering for the Staff Mobility Initiative does not automatically guarantee a secondment.

Do I need to notify my manager?

If a suitable opportunity arises, your manager will be contacted to discuss your availability and will need to approve your release from your current role. For this reason, staff are encouraged to discuss their registration for the Staff Mobility Initiative with their managers.
