Although it is your candidate's responsibility to ensure they are adhering to all ethical requirements during data management, they may look to you for guidance as to how to go about this. As such, you should ensure your candidates are aware of the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research.
All Macquarie researchers should be aware of our own Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research. Just like staff researchers, HDR students much be aware of and adhere to our systems and data management procedures.
If your candidate's research involves clinical trials, they should also be compliant with TGA's Good Clinical Practice Guidelines.
If you have reason to believe your candidate is not abiding by data management standards, it is important to discuss the issue with them and make them aware of Macquarie's expectations. If problems continue, you may wish to notify your Department Director HDR.
