ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centres

ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centres

StatusClosed
Aim

The Industrial Transformation Training Centres scheme fosters close partnerships between university-based researchers and other researchers. Training Centres deliver innovative Higher Degree by Research (HDR) and postdoctoral training. The focus is on creating end-user research capability that is vital to Australia's future through developing solutions relevant to the Industrial Transformation Priorities.

The current Industrial Transformation Priorities identified align with the priority funding areas under the National Reconstruction Fund (NRF):

  1. renewables and low emissions technologies
  2. medical science*
  3. transport
  4. value-add in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors
  5. value-add in resources
  6. defence capability
  7. enabling capabilities.

Further detail about the NRF priorities can be found at the Federal Register of Legislation.

* Applications which address the ‘Medical Science’ industrial transformation priority must take the ARC Medical Research Policy into consideration.

The objectives of the Industrial Transformation Training Centres scheme are to:

  • support opportunities for HDR candidates and postdoctoral researchers to pursue industrial training
  • drive growth, productivity and competitiveness by linking to key growth sectors
  • enhance competitive research collaboration between universities and organisations outside the Australian higher education sector
  • strengthen the capabilities of industries and other research end-users in identified Industrial Transformation Priority areas
Funding

The Industrial Transformation Training Centre scheme provides project funding of a minimum of $650,000 per year for the first three years and $150,000 in the fourth year. There is no minimum in the fifth year. The maximum level of funding is $1 million per year per project for each year of the project.

Faculty Processes

The Faculties have their own approval and review processes for grants under this scheme. They may also have deadlines for submission of draft applications that are earlier than the Research Services deadlines. Please ensure that you contact your Faculty, as early as possible, for information on process and deadlines. Faculty contacts:

Key Dates

Changes to Eligibility for DVCR Co-Funding

Eligibility for the DVCR Co-Funding Scheme is now contingent upon on-time submission of grant applications by the compliance and eligibility check date. Many applications for external funding require cash and in-kind contributions from the host institution in order to be considered for funding. In most cases, researchers request cash contributions, such as project support funds, funding for research associates, scholarships and major equipment, from the DVCR via the DVCR Co-Funding Scheme  to support their external funding applications. To be eligible to request this DVCR Co-Funding, grant applications must be submitted internally, via Pure, by the compliance and eligibility check date.

  • Applications must be submitted by the compliance and eligibility check date.
  • View further information on deadlines, processes and FAQs.
  • Applications that do not have a Pure record and/or do not have all the appropriate approvals in Pure (Head of Department [HoD] and Deputy Dean of Research and Innovation [DDRI]) will not be submitted to the external funding body.
