Macquarie University is actively building a better future for its staff, students and the community, with the Property office undertaking a number of major development projects. Here are updates on those projects that are being developed in line with the Macquarie University Concept Plan 2009 and upcoming Campus Master Plan.

Australian Hearing Hub

The Australian Hearing Hub will be a unique, world-class facility purpose-designed to facilitate collaborative research into hearing and related speech and language disorders. The project commenced in 2010 and is expected to be completed late 2012 More Details

  • MARCH 2012

     The concrete is currently being poured for Level 6 (the roof), with the concrete structure due to be completed early April, subject to weather conditions. Interior fit-out is proceeding, with high-level services (electrical, ventilation, fire alarm systems etc) being put in place now. Some tenancy petitions are currently being roughed-in on the Ground Floor. The first row of glass facade panels on the Ground Floor have been installed, and installation will soon commence on Level 1.  Precast polished concrete for the decorative blades of the building are also currently being manufactured. 
    The building completion is still targeted at late 2012. 

 

 

Lotus Theatre (W6D)

Lotus Theatre is a 500 seat teaching theatre, developed as a temporary space for use while the Macquarie Theatre Refurbishment is underway. Following the completion of the Macquarie Theatre project, Lotus Theatre will continue to be used as a teaching and learning venue for its lifespan. More Details

  • MARCH 2012

Final completion on the Lotus Theatre has been reached. The first lectures in the Theatre commenced in January 2012, and the first entertainment uses of the venue are in March 2012.

 

Macquarie Theatre Refurbishment

Macquarie Theatre will be undergoing significant refurbishment from late 2011, which will take the venue from a 1970's traditional theatre into a more modern, sustainable teaching and learning facility allowing large group teaching alongside small group active learning space. The project commenced in 2011 and is anticipated to be finished in late 2012. More details

  • MARCH 2012

    Temporary stairs leading to the walkway between the Macquarie Theatre, W5A and W5C have been established. Demolition works have been completed, with roofing works to main theatre nearing completion. Work on the ground floor toilet amenities has commenced, and work on the eastern foyer extension is due to commence in April. Clear identification of the work site can be seen on this map, and alternative access routes are also highlighted.

    As part of an ongoing program to upgrade our internal road and pedestrian network and to improve safety, new pedestrian crossings and pathways will be installed in the coming weeks.
